Bishop of Mỹ Tho
Bishop Pierre Nguyễn Văn Khảm, Bishop of Mỹ Tho, was born on October 2, 1952, at Ha Dong, in the Archdiocese of Hà Nội, and in 1954 he took refuge with his family in Saigon. He received his secondary formation at the minor seminary of Cần Thơ, studied philosophy at the St. Thomas seminary of Long Xuyên and theology at the St. Joseph seminary of Saigon, and he was ordained a priest on August 30, 1980, being incardinated in the Archdiocese of Thành-Phố Hồ Chí Minh. He served as parochial vicar at Xóm Mới from 1980 to 1984, and as vicar of the cathedral of Hồ Chí Minh City and professor at the St. Joseph major seminary from 1987 to 2001. From 2001 to 2004 he studied pastoral theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, where he obtained a doctorate. From 2004 to 2008 he was director of the diocesan pastoral centre, a member of the episcopal council and responsible for the priests studying abroad, and from March 2008 he was executive secretary of the Vietnamese bishops' conference. On October 15, 2008, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Thành-Phố Hồ Chí Minh and Titular Bishop of Trofimiana. He received episcopal ordination on November 15, 2008, with Jean-Baptiste Phạm Minh Mẫn as principal consecrator and Joseph Vũ Duy Thống and Stephanus Tri Bửu Thiên as co-consecrators. On July 26, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Mỹ Tho, and he was installed on August 30, 2014.
