Bishop of Nancy (-Toul)
Pierre-Yves Michel was born on February 17, 1960, in Roanne, in the Archdiocese of Lyon. After attending the seminaries in Paray-le-Monial and Lyon, he studied at the *Institut Supérieur de Pastorale Catéchétique*, obtaining the corresponding diploma from the Faculty of Theology at the *Institut Catholique* in Paris. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Lyon on June 30, 1991. He held the following positions: Parochial Vicar of Saint-Joseph des Brotteaux in Lyon and Chaplain of the Vendôme-Bellecombe College (1991–1992); Chaplain of the Lavoisier High School (1993–1995); member of the Sainte-Foy presbyterate and head of youth ministry (1995); Episcopal Delegate for Catechesis and Youth Ministry (1999–2003); Episcopal Vicar for Catechesis and the Catechumenate and Secretary of the Episcopal Council (1999–2003); Parish Priest of Saint-Priest and member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council (2005–2007); Vicar General and Moderator of the Diocesan Curia (2007–2014). On April 4, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Valence (France) and received episcopal ordination on May 29 of that year. Upon entering the seminary, he completed the first cycle of studies in Paray-le-Monial and the second cycle at the University Seminary of Lyon, where he obtained a *maîtrise* in Theology. From 1993 to 1995, he attended courses at the *Institut Supérieur de Pastorale Catéchétique*, obtaining the corresponding diploma in November 1995 from the Faculty of Theology at the *Institut Catholique* in Paris. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Lyon on June 30, 1991. He held the following positions: parochial vicar of Saint-Joseph des Brotteaux parish in Lyon and chaplain of the Vendôme-Bellecombe school (1991–1992); collaborator at Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas parish in Paris and chaplain of the Lavoisier Lyceum in Paris (1993–1995); member of the Sainte-Foy presbyterate and head of youth ministry (1995); episcopal delegate for catechesis and youth ministry (1999–2003); episcopal vicar for catechesis and the catechumenate, and secretary of the episcopal council (1999–2003); and parish priest of Saint-Priest parish, as well as a member of the College of Consultors and the Presbyteral Council (2005–2007). Since 2007, he has served as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia.
