Bishop Alfred Agyenta, Bishop of Navrongo-Bolgatanga, was born on January 20, 1959, in the village of Wiagha, in the Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga. He studied philosophy and theology at St. Victor Major Seminary. He was ordained a priest for Navrongo-Bolgatanga on August 6, 1988. After ordination he served as parochial vicar of Our Lady of Sorrows Cathedral at Navrongo (1988-1991); a student for a licentiate in sacred scripture at the Biblical Institute in Rome (1991-1995); professor at St. Victor Major Seminary in Tamale (1995-2000); and a doctoral student in theology at the Catholic University of Leuven (2000-2006). From 2006 he taught sacred scripture at the major seminaries of St. Augustine and St. Victor in Tamale. On April 5, 2011, he was appointed Bishop of Navrongo-Bolgatanga. He received episcopal ordination on June 29, 2011, with Léon Kalenga Badikebele as principal consecrator and Philip Naameh and Joseph Osei-Bonsu as co-consecrators.
