Msgr. Antônio Carlos Paiva was born on 9 May 1968 in Alto Rio Doce, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Mariana, in the State of Minas Gerais. He carried out his studies in philosophy in the Maria Imaculada Major Seminary in Araxá-MG and in theology at the Dom José André Coimbra Major Seminary in Patos de Minas-MG. He obtained a licentiate in spirituality from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 15 November 1999, and incardinated in the diocese of Patos de Minas. He has held the following offices: parish vicar of São Benedito in Patos de Minas-MG (1999-2000); parish administrator of Bom Jesus in Monte Carmelo-MG (2000-2001); rector of the Dom José André Coimbra Major Seminary (2001-2003 and 2016-2020); vicar general (2003-2004); parish priest of São Sebastião in São Gotardo-MG (2006-2011) and of São Benedito in Patos de Minas-MG (2011-2016); vicar forane, professor in the Seminary, and member of the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council, and other diocesan councils. Since 2020 he has served as parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Lagoa Formosa-MG.
