Bishop Miguel Ângelo Freitas Ribeiro

Freitas Ribeiro was born in Itaguara, in the Diocese of Oliveira (State of Minas Gerais), on November 26, 1958. He pursued his philosophical studies at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and his theological studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte. He also obtained a Licentiate degree in Letters from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He was ordained a priest on January 11, 1986, and incardinated into the Diocese of Oliveira, where he held the following positions: Pastor of the "Senhor Bom Jesus dos Perdões" parish; Spiritual Director of the "Cursilhos de Cristandade"; Pastor of the "Nossa Senhora Aparecida" diocesan shrine; Parish Administrator of "São Francisco de Paula"; Editor of the monthly publication "Vida Diocesana"; Diocesan Pastoral Advisor; President of the Diocesan Council for Sacred Art; Rector of the "São José" Minor Seminary and the propaedeutic program; and Member of the College of Consultors. On January 17, 2001, he was appointed Bishop of Tocantinópolis, receiving episcopal ordination on March 31 of that same year. Within the Diocese of Oliveira, he held the following positions: Diocesan Pastoral Advisor; President of the Diocesan Council for Sacred Art; Rector of the "São José" Minor Seminary and the propaedeutic program; and Pastor of the "Nossa Senhora Aparecida" parish (starting in 1993).
