Bishop Pio Hipunyati

Fr. Pio Hipunyati was born on November 14, 1964, in Ounonge, in the Onamakunde Municipality of Kunene Province (Angola). After completing his primary education in Catholic schools within the dioceses of Lubango and Ondjiva, he undertook the propaedeutic course at the Sikufinde Seminary in the present-day Archdiocese of Lubango. From 1988 to 1991, he successfully completed the Philosophy and Theology cycles at the Major Seminary of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Archdiocese of Luanda. He was ordained a priest on December 5, 1998, and is incardinated in the Diocese of Ondjiva. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1999–2002: Superior of the Omupanda Catholic Mission and Spiritual Director of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Propaedeutic Seminary in the Diocese of Ondjiva; 1998–2002: Diocesan Bursar; 2002–2006: Formator for seminarians from his diocese studying in Tolentino, Italy; 2006–2011: Studies at the Catholic University of Portugal, where he obtained a Licentiate in Canon Law and a specialization diploma in Law. Since 2011, he has served as Superior of the Omupanda Catholic Mission and as a Latin teacher at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Minor Seminary in Omupanda.
