Krzysztof Białasik is Bishop of Oruro, Bolivia. Krzysztof Janusz Bialasik Wawrowska, SVD, was born on 7 July 1958 in Zbaszy / Zbaszyn, in the Archdiocese of Zielona Gora - Gorzów, Poland. He was ordained a priest on 15 June 1985 and was ordained bishop on 17 September 2005. His episcopal see is the Diocese of Oruro. After entering the Society of the Divine Word, he was ordained a priest on 15 June 1985 in Pieniezno. In 1985 he arrived in Bolivia as a missionary and was appointed for two three-year terms as a member of the regional council of his institute in the Andean country. In May 1986 he was appointed parochial vicar of Laja, in the Diocese of El Alto. From 1986 to 1998 he was parish priest in the same parish. In the same period he was director of the Aymara Pastoral Theological Institute and diocesan officer for the formation of rural catechists. In 1998 he was appointed regional superior of his institute, and in 2001 he was confirmed for another three-year term. He obtained a degree in pedagogy at the Universidad Santo Tomás of La Paz. He was also director of the Normal Superior Integrada Católica Sedes Sapientiae in Laja and professor of canon law and liturgy at the same institution. In May 1998 he was assigned to the office of Secretary for Pastoral Ministry of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference. Pope emeritus Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Oruro on 30 June 2005. He was consecrated bishop on 17 September 2005. The Diocese of Oruro has an area of more than 53 thousand square kilometers and a population of more than 400 thousand inhabitants. For the evangelization of the diocese's nearly 243 thousand Catholics, the bishop-elect had the assistance of 36 priests, 133 religious, and 5 permanent deacons. In 1998 he was entrusted with the office of Secretary for Pastoral Ministry of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference. He served as provincial of the Society of the Divine Word missionaries, S.V.D., between 1999 - 2005. He was president of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communication. He was founder and president of the Vida y Familia Foundation until 2021. He is the current bishop of the Diocese of Oruro.
