Archbishop of Pamplona y Tudela
Florencio Roselló Avellanas was born on January 10, 1962, in Alcorisa (Teruel). He entered the Mercedarian minor seminary in Reus (Tarragona) on September 22, 1973. Upon completing his secondary education (BUP), he moved to the novitiate; at the Monastery of Santa María del Olivar, he received the habit on August 10, 1979, and made his first religious profession on August 15, 1980. That same year, he joined the community in Molins de Rei (Barcelona) and completed his pre-university studies (COU). In 1981, he moved to the Monastery of El Puig (Valencia), where he began ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and theology. He completed the first four years of study at the San Vicente Ferrer Faculty of Theology (run by the Dominican Order) and the final year at the San Pacià Faculty of Theology of Catalonia in Barcelona, obtaining a Licentiate in Ecclesiastical Studies. During this time, he also studied music theory and piano. He made his Solemn Profession on December 7, 1985, at the Mercedarian minor seminary in Reus and was ordained a priest on August 24, 1986, in Alcorisa (Teruel). That same year, he completed the first year of Social Work studies at the University School of Social Work in Valencia. His first assignment, from 1985 to 1986, was with the *Hogar Mercedario* community in Barcelona (a halfway house for prisoners on leave or on conditional or final release). Subsequently, he served in Mercedarian communities in Valencia (1986–1987), Castellón (1987–1994), and Elche (Alicante) (1994–2003), as well as at the Provincial Curia in Barcelona (2003–2015). In 2015, he returned to Castellón, where he resided until his appointment as bishop. Within the Order of Mercy, he has held the following positions: superior of the Mercedarian community in Elche (Alicante) (1997–2003); ...provincial councilor for pastoral care within the Provincial Government and head of pastoral care (2000–2003); and provincial superior of the Mercedarians of Aragon (2003–2015). Additionally, he served as vicar of the Our Lady of El Puig parish in Valencia (1986–1987); chaplain of the Castellón Penitentiary Center (1987–1994); chaplain of the Fontcalent Penitentiary Center (Alicante) (1994–2003); coordinator of prison pastoral care in the Valencian Community (1993–2003); and diocesan delegate for prison pastoral care in the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante (1994–2003). Regarding the latter diocese, he was a member of the presbyteral council (1997–2001), and he also served on the Diocesan Pastoral Council of the Diocese of Segorbe-Castellón (2015–2019). During the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 academic years, he coordinated the second and third editions of the Master's program in Prison Pastoral Care. Since 2015, he has served as director of the Prison Pastoral Care Department of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), superior of the Mercedarian community in Castellón, and chaplain of the Castellón prison. Since 2021, he has also been the vice-president of the diocesan branch of CONFER. On November 9, 2023, Pope Francis appointed Florencio Roselló as Archbishop of Pamplona and Bishop of Tudela; he took office on January 27, 2024. At the time of his appointment, he was serving as director of the Prison Pastoral Care Department of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE).
