Jean-Pierre Cottanceau, ss.cc. Archbishop: Papeete (French Polynesia), since 2017. Born January 14, 1953. Ordained priest May 10, 1980. Appointed bishop December 15, 2016. Consecrated bishop February 18, 2017. Education: École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem (1985–1986); Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Strasbourg (Master’s and DEA degrees in theology); Doctorate in Biblical Theology from the University of Strasbourg (1982). Ministries: Parish pastoral service in Paris (1979–1981); High school chaplain in Paris (1981–1985); Director of a youth residence in Villefranche-de-Rouergue (1986–1998); Provincial Councilor for the southern region of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (1988–1994); Superior of the Picpus Fathers in Pirae (Tahiti), responsible for initial formation, teacher of Sacred Scripture at the major seminary in Papeete, facilitator of theological sessions for the laity, and university chaplain (1998–2000); Parish priest of the Sacred Heart parish, Arue (Papeete) (2000–2010); Formator of seminarians in the Philippines (2010–2015); Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Papeete (2015–2016).
