Bishop of Passau
Stefan Oster, S.D.B., was born on June 3, 1965, in Amberg, in the Diocese of Regensburg. From 1984 to 1986, he trained as a journalist and radio editor, a profession he subsequently practiced at various newspapers and radio stations. In 1988, he began studying Philosophy, History, and Religious Studies in Regensburg, Kiel, Keele (Great Britain), and Oxford, where he obtained a Master of Studies degree in 1993. In 1994, he earned a *Magister Artium* degree in Regensburg. He entered the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1995 and began studying Theology in Benediktbeuern in 1996. He made his perpetual profession on July 24, 1999, and was ordained a priest on June 24, 2001. In 2003, he obtained a Doctorate in Philosophy from the Faculty of Theology at the University of Augsburg. Subsequently, from 2003 to 2009, he served as Professor of Philosophy at the Salesian College in Benediktbeuern. In 2009, he received his habilitation in Dogmatic Theology from the Theological Faculty of Trier and was appointed Full Professor of Dogmatics and the History of Dogma at the College in Benediktbeuern. He is a member of the Vocations Commission of the German Bishops' Conference.
