Bishop of Penonomé
Edgardo Cedeño Muñoz, S.V.D., is Bishop of Penonomé, Panama. He was born in Panama on 18 January 1960. He studied philosophy in Bogotá, Colombia, at the Centro de Estudios de Pastoral y Filosofía CEPAF, and theology at the Javeriana University of Bogotá. He attended courses in spiritual orientation and counseling in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He made perpetual vows in the Society of the Divine Word on 19 March 1988 and was ordained a priest on 28 October 1989. Assigned to Uruguay, from 1990 to 1994 he worked in a parish in Montevideo; he was vicar for youth ministry of the northern vicariate and superior of the Uruguay district in 1992 and 1993. Elected in 1995 as provincial councillor of the Colombia-Panama Province, he served as formator of aspirants from 1995 to 1997, provincial superior from 1998 to 2001, formator of philosophers and pre-novices from 2002 to 2004, provincial treasurer, chaplain of the school of the Sisters of Mary Queen of Peace in Bogotá from 2005 to 2007, and parish priest of San Girolamo in Panama from 2007 to 2008. From 2009 to 2011 he was parish priest in Palacagüina in Nicaragua and regional treasurer of the Central American region, Panama, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Since 2011 he has been parish priest of Virgen de la Medalla Milagrosa Parish in Panama.
