Bishop of Portland
Msgr. James T. Ruggieri was born on 12 January 1968 in Providence, in the diocese of the same name. After carrying out his ecclesiastical studies at Our Lady of Providence Seminary, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Providence College and a Master of Divinity from Saint Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore. He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1995 for the diocese of Providence. He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Matthew in Cranston (1995-1998), Saint Aloysius, Saint Ann and Our Lady of Victories in Woonsocket (1998-2001), and Holy Spirit in Central Falls (2001-2003); parish priest of Saint Patrick in Providence (since 2003); administrator of Saint Casimir in Providence (2004-2011) and Saint John the Baptist in Pawtucket (2005-2006); since 2021, parish priest of Saint Michael in Providence.
