Bishop of Pueblo
Stephen Jay Berg is Bishop of Pueblo, Colorado, USA. Stephen J. Berg was born on 3 March 1951 in Miles City, Montana, in the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings. After attending Sacred Heart High School in Miles City and Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, he obtained a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1973. He later obtained a master's degree in music, piano, from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales in 1975. After musical studies, he worked for several years in horticulture. He entered the seminary in 1993 and completed ecclesiastical studies at Assumption Seminary and the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas, until 1999. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Fort Worth on 15 May 1999. After priestly ordination, he served as parochial vicar of Saint Michael Parish in Bedford (1999-2001) and Saint John the Apostle Parish in North Richland Hills (2001-2002); pastor of Saint Mary in Henrietta, Saint Jerome in Bowie, Saint William in Montague, and Saint Joseph in Nocona (2002-2008); vicar general and pastor of Saint Peter the Apostle Parish in Fort Worth (2008-2012); moderator of the curia (2010-2012); spiritual director at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas from 2009; and diocesan administrator and parish administrator of Holy Name Parish in Fort Worth from 2012. In 2012 he was named a Prelate of Honor. In addition to English, he knows Spanish.
