Bishop of Rajshahi
Bishop Gervas Rozario, Bishop of Rajshahi, was born on August 15, 1951, in Stiangaccha, in the Diocese of Dinajpur. After primary and secondary studies in the diocese, he studied at St. Joseph's Intermediate Seminary in Ramna, Dhaka, attending courses at Notre Dame College, and completed his philosophical and theological studies at the National Major Seminary in Dhaka. He was ordained a priest for Dinajpur on December 31, 1980, and was incardinated in Rajshahi on May 20, 1990, at the erection of that diocese. He then served as parochial vicar of the parish of Borni (1981-1983); rector of the intermediate seminary at Suihari, Dinajpur (1983-1984); parochial vicar of the parish of Beneedwar (1984-1987); and diocesan coordinator of youth and vocations ministry (1981-1987). He took a degree in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy in Rome (1987-1991); served as vice-rector of the intermediate seminary of Ramna and professor at the National Major Seminary, Dhaka (1991-1993); attended a renewal course at the Asian Religious Formation Institute of SAIDI in Manila (1994-1995); and was vice-rector, dean and professor at the National Major Seminary, Dhaka (1996-2004), while also serving on the committee of Caritas Bangladesh (1996-2005). From 2004 he was parish priest of Rohanpur and a consultor, and from 2005 diocesan administrator and president of the Fraternity of Diocesan Priests of Bangladesh. On January 15, 2007, he was appointed Bishop of Rajshahi. He received episcopal ordination on March 22, 2007, with Theotonius Gomes as principal consecrator and Paul Tschang In-Nam and Patrick D'Rozario as co-consecrators.
