Archbishop Mate Uzinić

He was born on September 17, 1967, in Dubrava, within the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska. He attended primary school in Dubrava and high school at the Archbishop's Seminary in Split. After completing a year of mandatory military service (1986–1987) on the Prevlaka Peninsula, he completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Faculty of Theology in Split, earning a bachelor's degree in 1993. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska on June 27, 1993. For three years, he served pastorally in the parishes of Omiš and Otrić-Struge. In 1996, he continued his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Lateran University, obtaining a licentiate in canon and civil law in 2000. Upon returning to Split, he served from 2000 to 2002 as a judicial vicar and judge at the Interdiocesan Ecclesiastical Court of First Instance in Split, while also serving as a pastoral associate in the Strožanac-Podstrana parish. He has served as Rector of the Central Major Seminary in Split since 2001. He has been a member of the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska since 2002 and a member of the Croatian Conference of Bishops' Council for Seminaries and Vocations since 2004. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Dubrovnik on January 24, 2011. He was ordained bishop in the Dubrovnik Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on March 19, 2011. On November 4, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Rijeka and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Dubrovnik; he was installed in office on December 16, 2020, in the Rijeka Cathedral. He assumed the office of Archbishop of Rijeka on October 11, 2022.
