Bishop of Romblon
Bishop Narciso Villaver Abellana, M.S.C., Bishop of Romblon, Philippines, was born in Talisay City, in the Archdiocese of Cebu, on 11 November 1953. After high school at Sacred Heart Mission Seminary in Talisay, he attended Ateneo de Manila University. In 1973-1974 he completed the novitiate with the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In 1974-1978 he attended theology courses at Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila University. In 1988-1991 he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, obtaining a licentiate in Church history. After solemn profession on 2 June 1977, he was ordained a priest of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 28 December 1978. He subsequently served as parish priest in Pilar, Cebu, from 1978 to 1986; rector of the College Seminary in Banawa, Cebu City, from 1986 to 1988; provincial councillor and vice master of novices from 1991 to 1993; dean of the theologate from 1993 to 1999; provincial superior from 1999 to 2005; and vicar general and first assistant of the superior general in Rome from 2005 to 2011. After returning to his homeland, since 2011 he has been chaplain at Central Luzon State University in Nueva Ecija.
