Bishop Siprianus Hormat

Bishop Siprianus Hormat, Bishop of Ruteng, was born on July 16, 1965, in Cibal, Manggarai, in the Diocese of Ruteng. He entered the Pius XII diocesan minor seminary at Kisol and continued his philosophical and theological studies at the Ledalero Institute of Philosophy and Theology, residing at the St. Peter Interdiocesan Major Seminary at Ritapiret. He was ordained a priest for Ruteng on October 8, 1995. He then served as parochial vicar of San Vitale parish at Cewonikit and director of the diocesan commission for youth ministry (1995-1996); formator at the major seminary of Ritapiret (1996-1997); assistant at San Pasquale parish in Jakarta, while attending English language courses (1997-1999); a student for a licentiate in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy and of a course for formators at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1999-2002); formator and lecturer at the major seminary of Ritapiret and lecturer at the diocesan pastoral institute of Ruteng (2002-2012); secretary of the episcopal commission for seminaries and of the Indonesian Biblical Association in Jakarta (2013-2016); and president of the national priests' association UNIO (2014-2017). From 2016 he served as executive secretary of the episcopal conference in Jakarta. On November 13, 2019, he was appointed Bishop of Ruteng. He received episcopal ordination on March 19, 2020, at Ruteng, with Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo as principal consecrator and Vincentius Sensi Potokota and Silvester Tung Kiem San as co-consecrators.
