June 27, 2007: Appointed Bishop of San José de Mayo. September 8, 2007: Ordained Bishop. Principal consecrator: Msgr. Janusz Bolonek, then Apostolic Nuncio to Uruguay. Co-consecrators: Msgr. Pablo Galimberti, Bishop of Salto; Msgr. Francisco Barbosa, Bishop Emeritus of Minas. Bishop of the Diocese of San José de Mayo (2007–2020). On June 15, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Salto. He took possession of the Diocese on August 15, 2020.
