Bishop of São Miguel Paulista
Algacir Munhak was born on April 19, 1966, in Cascavel, within the Archdiocese of the same name in the State of Paraná. After completing his philosophy studies at the *Instituto Superior de Filosofia Berthier* in Passo Fundo (RS), he obtained a Baccalaureate in Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (1994) and subsequently a Licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1998). He made his religious profession in the Congregation of Saint Charles (Scalabrinians) on March 25, 1990, and was ordained a priest on August 17, 1996. He held the following positions: Spiritual Director at the Seminary in Sarandi (RS) (1998) and at the Philosophy Seminary in Passo Fundo (RS) (1999); Vocation Promoter; Rector of the Propaedeutic Seminary in Porto Alegre (RS) (2000–2001), the Seminary in Passo Fundo (RS) (2001–2005), and the *Nuestra Señora de Caacupé* Seminary in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay (2005–2006); and Vice-President of the Chilean Catholic Migration Institute (INCAMI) as well as Parochial Vicar of *Nuestra Señora de Pompeya* in Santiago, Chile (2006–2010). He was also a member of the CELAM section for the Pastoral Care of Human Mobility. Subsequently, he served as Provincial Superior of San José, based in Buenos Aires (2010–2013). Following the 2013 unification of the Scalabrinian provinces in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Peru into the South American Region of *Nossa Senhora Mãe dos Migrantes* (Our Lady, Mother of Migrants)—headquartered in Porto Alegre (RS)—Msgr. Munhak served as Bursar (2013–2019). On June 1, 2019, he was elected Superior of the same region for a three-year term, and was subsequently re-elected on June 1, 2022.
