Bishop Xabier Gómez García

Xabier Gómez García, OP, was born on April 11, 1970, in Azkoitia (Guipúzcoa). He was ordained a priest on June 12, 1994. He entered the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) in 2003. He completed his novitiate at the formation convent in Salamanca, where he made his first religious profession on September 17, 2004. He holds a degree in Theology from the Faculty of Theology of San Esteban in Salamanca. Additionally, he holds a Master's degree in Family Counseling and Mediation from the Pontifical University of Salamanca and specialized in Intercultural Social Mediation at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He carried out his priestly ministry in the Diocese of San Sebastián, serving as parochial vicar of Elgoibar (1994-1997) and as parish priest and coordinator of the Eskoriatza-Aretxabareta Pastoral Unit (1997-2003). As a Dominican friar, he served as parochial vicar of the Santo Cristo parish and pastoral coordinator at the Nuestra Señora de Atocha School in Madrid (2006-2010); promoter of youth and vocational ministry for the Province of the Order of Preachers (OP) (2009-2012); parochial vicar of the Nuestra Señora de Atocha parish sanctuary in Madrid (2010-2016); prior of the Santa Catarina convent in Barcelona (2016-2018); provincial promoter of Justice and Peace (2013-2021); OP promoter of Justice and Peace at the European level (2016-2022); and provincial promoter of youth and vocational ministry (2021-2022). On October 8, 2024, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Sant Feliu de Llobregat. He took possession of the Catalan diocese on November 30, 2024. At the time of his appointment, he was a member of the coordinating team of the "Samba Martine" Human Rights Observatory (since 2016); Director of O_LUMEN: Space for Art and Words (since 2021); Director of the Migration Department of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) (since 2021); Director of the pre-novitiate program for the Dominican Province (since 2022); and Prior of the Santo Tomás de Aquino-El Olivar convent in Madrid (since 2019). Since the April 2025 Plenary Assembly, he has been a member of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral Care and Human Promotion.
