Bishop César Luis Caro Puértolas

Fr. César Caro is a native of Mérida, Spain, born on May 30, 1970. He was ordained a priest on May 6, 2000, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Mérida-Badajoz. He served as a parish priest in small towns in his homeland; while he considers himself a village priest, he always dreamed of missionary work. In 2014, he was sent to Peru to the parish of Rodríguez de Mendoza, in the Diocese of Chachapoyas, where he served for two years. Since February 2017, he has been a missionary in the Vicariate of San José del Amazonas; his first assignment was the mission station of Islandia, on the Yavarí River. In March 2020, he was appointed Vicar General and transferred to Indiana, where he also served as parish priest. Since February 2022, he has resided at the administrative headquarters in Punchana-Iquitos. He was recently appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Amazonas by Pope Leo XIV.
