Biographical details of Monsignor Bernabé de Jesús Sagastume Lemus, O.F.M. Cap., the new Bishop of San Marcos, Guatemala. Born on May 20, 1961, in San Esteban (Chiquimula), in the Diocese of Zacapa (Guatemala), he was ordained a priest on January 31, 1987. He earned a licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and specialized in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum "Antonianum." He served as Provincial Vicar of the Capuchin Friars for the Province of Central America. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Santa Rosa de Lima on July 31, 2007. He has served as Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of Guatemala and as head of the Educational Pastoral Care Section; he is currently the Treasurer of the Episcopal Conference of Guatemala. He was appointed Bishop of San Marcos by Pope Francis on January 11, 2021.
