Bishop Thomas Halim Habib

Bishop Thomas Halim Habib was born in Sohag, Egypt, on 6 July 1963. Before entering the Seminary, he received a degree in law and exercised the profession of lawyer in Egypt. He received priestly ordination on 27 March 1994, and was incardinated in the Patriarchal eparchy of Alexandria of the Copts. He concluded the institutional cycle at the Pontifical Urban University and was awarded a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute. He was made responsible for the Coptic community in Rome. After his studies in the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, on 13 June 1998 he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See. He has served in the Pontifical Representations in Honduras, Rwanda, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Algeria, Syria and Malta, first as secretary and then as advisor.
