Bishop Shorot Francis Gomes

Bishop Shorot Francis Gomes, Bishop of Sylhet, was born on December 15, 1965, in Hashnabad, in the Archdiocese of Dhaka. After completing his primary and secondary studies at the Holy Cross school of Bandura, he entered the Little Flower Minor Seminary in Dhaka and continued his studies at St. Joseph's Intermediate Seminary in Dhaka. While living in the seminary he obtained a bachelor of arts from Notre Dame College in Dhaka. In 1984 he entered the Holy Spirit Major Seminary of Dhaka and completed his philosophical and theological studies. He was ordained a priest for Dhaka on May 31, 1990. He then served as parochial vicar of the cathedral and of Nagari church (1990-1994); rector of the Little Flower Minor Seminary at Bandura (1994-1998); a doctoral student in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy in Rome (1998-2002); parochial vicar of Nagari and Tejgaon churches (2002-2005); vice-rector of the Holy Spirit Major Seminary, Dhaka (2005-2009); rector of the same seminary (2009-2012); and vicar general of the new Diocese of Sylhet (2012-2015). From 2016 he served as vicar general of the Archdiocese of Dhaka. On February 8, 2016, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Forma and Auxiliary Bishop of Dhaka. He received episcopal ordination on April 22, 2016, at Dhaka, with Patrick D'Rozario as principal consecrator and George Kocherry and Bejoy Nicephorus D'Cruze as co-consecrators. On May 12, 2021, he was appointed Bishop of Sylhet, and he was installed on July 20, 2021.
