Bishop of Tainan
John Baptist Huang Min-Cheng, O.F.M., was born on March 23, 1955, in Madou, in the Diocese of Tainan. After attending the Franciscan minor seminary in the Neihu district, he studied philosophy and theology in Taipei. He entered the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans) and was ordained a priest on March 29, 1984, in Tainan. He has held the following positions and pursued further studies: service at Queen of Angels Parish in Xinying, Tainan (1984–1992); Provincial of the Chinese Province (Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau) (1992–1998); Master’s degree in Spirituality from the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome (1998–2002); President of the Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Christian Unity (2002–2012); parish priest in Baihe and Madou (Tainan); Director of the Hsientsaopo Rottgen House Franciscan Spirituality Center; Spiritual Director of the Biblical Apostolate Association; General Councilor of the Secular Franciscan Order; Vicar General of the Diocese of Tainan (2013–2019); and, since 2019, Director of the Franciscan Spirituality Center in Hsinchu, as well as Provincial Councilor and parish priest at the Daxi Friary in the Diocese of Hsinchu.
