Bishop of Tanga
Thomas John Kiangio was born on March 17, 1965, in Mazinde Ngua, in the Diocese of Tanga. After attending St. Joseph Minor Seminary and St. Peter Minor Seminary, he pursued studies in philosophy at St. Anthony Major Seminary in Ntungamo (Diocese of Bukoba) and in theology at St. Charles Mwanga Major Seminary in Segerea (Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam). He also gained pastoral experience at Mlingano Parish (Diocese of Tanga) and completed a course in Clinical Pastoral Education at Bugando Medical Hospital in Mwanza. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Tanga on July 16, 1997. He has held the following positions and pursued further studies: Assistant Parish Priest at Lushoto Parish (1997–1998); teacher, disciplinarian, Vice-Rector, and subsequently Rector of St. Joseph Minor Seminary (1998–1999 and 2004–2013); Licentiate and Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome (1999–2003); and Secretary General and Chancellor of the Diocese of Tanga (2013–2020). Since 2020, he has served as Diocesan Administrator.
