Bishop of Toruń
Bishop Arkadiusz Okroj, Bishop of Toruń, was born on May 27, 1967, in Kartuzy, then in the Diocese of Chełmno and now in the Diocese of Pelplin. After completing his philosophical and theological studies at the diocesan major seminary, he was ordained a priest for Pelplin on June 6, 1992. He then served as parochial vicar of the parish of Our Lady of Consolation at Drzycim (1992-1996) and of St. Joseph at Wygoda (1996-1997). From 1997 to 2000 he continued his studies at the Catholic University of Lublin, obtaining a doctorate in spiritual theology in 2002. He was subsequently spiritual father at the major seminary (2000-2010), and from 2010 parish priest of St. Michael the Archangel at Kiełpino. For several years he led the regional groups of the pilgrimage to Jasna Góra. From 2002 he has overseen the formation of the consecrated virgins of the diocese, and from 2010 has served as director of the subcommission of the Polish Episcopal Conference for private forms of consecrated life. From 2017 he has also been moderator of the ongoing formation of the priests of the Diocese of Pelplin. In 2009 he was named a chaplain of His Holiness. He speaks German, French and Italian. On February 12, 2019, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Cufruta and Auxiliary Bishop of Pelplin. He received episcopal ordination on March 2, 2019, at Pelplin, with Ryszard Kasyna as principal consecrator and Salvatore Pennacchio and Wiesław Andrzej Śmigiel as co-consecrators. On April 5, 2025, he was appointed Bishop of Toruń, and he was installed on June 6, 2025.
