Bishop Edward Hiiboro Kussala

Rev. Edward Hiiboro Kussala was born on March 23, 1964, in Source Yubu, in the Diocese of Tombura-Yambio. From 1974 to 1979, he attended primary school in Source Yubu. He continued his middle school education at St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary in Rimenze from 1980 to 1982, and then advanced to secondary studies at St. Mary’s Senior Seminary in Wau, which he attended from 1983 to 1985. Upon entering St. Paul’s National Seminary, he completed an orientation course in 1986 and philosophy courses in Juba (1987–1989), earning a diploma. From 1990 to 1993, he pursued theology studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. He was ordained on May 20, 1994, in Khartoum, and incardinated into the Diocese of Tombura-Yambio. Following his ordination, he held the following positions: 1994–2001: Parochial Vicar of the Parish of Sts. Peter and Paul; Rector of the Tombura-Yambio Diocesan Minor Seminary (located at the Sudanese refugee camp in Mboki, Central African Republic); Bursar and person in charge of pastoral care for diocesan staff in the Sudanese refugee camps in the Central African Republic; and Director of the Mboki Refugee Secondary School. 2002–2005: Studies for a degree in Moral Theology at the Alphonsian Academy, Rome. 2003–2005: Courses in International Law at the Lateran University (earning an M.A.), followed by courses in Administration and Personnel Management—also at the Lateran University—earning a diploma in 2004. He also attended courses on "Spirituality for Educators" at the Angelicum and on bioethics. Since 2005: Professor of Moral Theology at St. Paul’s National Seminary in Khartoum.
