The Pope has appointed Msgr. Michele Tomasi—a priest of the Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone who has served as Rector of the Diocesan Seminary and Episcopal Vicar for the Clergy—as Bishop of the Diocese of Treviso. Msgr. Tomasi was born in Bolzano on July 9, 1965. After completing his classical high school studies, he attended Bocconi University in Milan, where he earned his degree. In 1992, he decided to enter the seminary for the Diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone. He was ordained a priest on June 28, 1998. From 1998 to 2001, he served as a parochial vicar at S. Spirito in Merano; from 2001 to 2006, he was the parish priest at S. Spirito in Merano; and from 2006 to 2010, he was responsible for Italian-language pastoral care in the Deanery of Vipiteno. He has been a lecturer at the Academic Theological Study Centre in Bressanone since 2000. He served as an ACLI chaplain from 2005 to 2008 and as ecclesiastical advisor to UCID (Christian Union of Entrepreneurs and Executives) from 2007 to 2008. Since 2010, he has served as Rector of the Major Seminary and the diocesan officer for vocational pastoral care, and since 2011, he has been a Canon of the Bressanone Cathedral. He also served as Vicar General from 2012 to 2016 and has been Episcopal Vicar for the Clergy since 2016. He holds a doctorate in Social Ethics from the University of Innsbruck (awarded in 2017) and has served as the ecclesiastical assistant for the "La strada – Der Weg" association since 2018.
