Bishop of Tubarão
Adilson Pedro Busin is Bishop of Tubarão, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Adilson Pedro Busin, C.S., missionary of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Charles, the Scalabrinians, was born on 20 May 1965 in Sarandi, in the Archdiocese of Passo Fundo, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He entered the seminary of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Charles, Scalabrinians, in 1979. He completed studies in philosophy at the University of Caxias do Sul, RS, and theology at the Instituto Teológico São Paulo, ITESP, in São Paulo, SP. He made religious profession on 31 May 1992 as a member of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Charles, Scalabrinians, and was ordained a priest on 9 January 1993. He held the following offices and completed further studies: vocation animator and rector of the minor seminary of Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, and spiritual director at Nossa Senhora de Caacupe Seminary in Ciudad del Este; master of novices; provincial superior; vicar of the South American Region; president of the Scalabrinian Association for the Service of Migrants; and a licentiate or master's study in education sciences at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, from 1996 to 1999. He exercised different functions in the congregation in Brazil and also in the United States until he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre by Pope Francis in 2016. On 27 January 2016 he was appointed titular Bishop of Guardialfiera and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre, receiving episcopal ordination on the following 30 April. The episcopal ordination took place in Sarandi and was presided over by the then Bishop of the Diocese of Caxias do Sul, Bishop Alessandro Ruffinoni. Bishop Adilson chose as his motto Servo e peregrino no amor, Servant and pilgrim in love. In seven years of episcopate, Bishop Busin had performed various regional and national functions, including secretary of Regional Sul 3 of the CNBB; member of the Missionary Council and interecclesial cooperation; reference bishop of the Regional Missionary Commission, COMIRE; reference bishop for social pastorals in the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre and for migrants in Regional Sul 3 of the CNBB. At the national level, he also served as reference bishop of the special commission for human trafficking of the CNBB. Since 2019 he has been reference bishop of the Pastoral Care of Brazilians Abroad, PBE, and in the last quadrennium he was a member of the Episcopal Commission for Missionary Action and Interecclesial Cooperation of the CNBB.
