Bishop of Vacaria
Sílvio Guterres Dutra was born on June 6, 1966, in Encruzilhada do Sul, in the Diocese of Santa Cruz do Sul, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Porto Alegre. He subsequently obtained a Licentiate in Pastoral Theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome (1999–2001). He was ordained a priest on December 18, 1993, and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre, where he held the following positions: Parochial Vicar in Camaquã (1994); Parish Priest in Porto Alegre at the parishes of Santa Ana (1995–1997), Nossa Senhora do Montserrat (1998–1999), and Madre Teresa de Calcutá (2002); Parish Priest of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Guaíba (2002–2012); Pastoral Coordinator for the Vicariate of Guaíba (2004–2011); and Vice-Rector of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Major Seminary in Viamão (2012); he has served as Rector of the same seminary since 2013.
