Bishop of Valle de Chalco
Víctor René Rodríguez Gómez was born in San Martín de las Pirámides, in the State of Mexico and the Diocese of Texcoco, on November 17, 1950. In 1962, he entered the Minor Seminary of Texcoco, later moving to the Major Seminary of Durango for his studies in philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Texcoco on November 21, 1976. He obtained a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical University of Mexico and also completed a course in Pastoral Planning in Mexico City with the "For a Better World" movement. As a priest, he held the following positions: Pastor of the parishes of "Santo Toribio" in Papalotla, "San Juan Bautista" in Teotihuacán, "San Martín" in Pirámides, and "San Miguel Arcángel" in Chiconcuac; Episcopal Vicar for the Pirámides Zone (1987–1997); legal representative of the Diocese of Texcoco; Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral Affairs (1997–2006); member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors; Pro-Vicar General (2001–2006); and Rector of the Cathedral of Texcoco (2001–2003). On May 13, 2006, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Tiburnia and Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Texcoco, receiving episcopal ordination on July 25 of that year. In November 2009, he was elected Secretary General of the Mexican Episcopal Conference.
