Bishop Edmund Woga

Bishop Edmund Woga, C.Ss.R., Bishop of Weetebula, was born on November 17, 1950, in Hewokloang, in the Diocese of Maumere, Flores. He entered the St. John Berchmans Minor Seminary at Mataloko, Flores, and then joined the Redemptorists at Sumba, continuing his philosophical and theological studies at the major seminary of Kentungan, Yogyakarta (1971-1977). He was ordained a priest on November 29, 1977, and incardinated in the Diocese of Weetebula. He subsequently entered the Redemptorists in 1980 and made his perpetual vows in 1985. He served as director of the Religion Teachers' Training Institute at Waingapu (1978); parish priest of St. Clement's parish at Katikuloku (1978-1979); director of the Pada Dita Borading at Waingapu (1979-1982); a student for a licentiate in missiology at Sankt Augustin, Germany (1982-1984); a doctoral student in fundamental theology at Munich (1986-1992); professor of missiology at the Wedhabakti Theological Faculty, Yogyakarta (1993-2002); provincial superior of the Redemptorists in Indonesia, based in West Sumba (2002-2008); and from 2008 diocesan administrator of Weetebula. On April 4, 2009, he was appointed Bishop of Weetebula. He received episcopal ordination on July 16, 2009, with Gerulfus Kherubim Pareira as principal consecrator and Vincentius Sensi Potokota and Johannes Maria Trilaksyanta Pujasumarta as co-consecrators.
