Bishop of Würzburg
Bishop Dr. Franz Jung was born on 4 June 1966 in Mannheim. On 10 October 1992 he was ordained a priest in Rome by Bishop Dr. Franz Kamphaus. In February 1998 he began work as chaplain in the Parish of St. Anton in Primasens. In August 2001 he began work as chaplain in Speyer Cathedral Parish and as episcopal secretary to Bishop Dr. Anton Schlembach. In September 2003 he was appointed head of the Parish Pastoral Care Department of the Episcopal Ordinariate. In January 2009 he was called as vicar general by Bishop Dr. Karl-Heinz Wiesemann. On 16 February 2018 he was appointed Bishop of Wuerzburg by Pope Francis. On 10 June 2018 he received episcopal ordination and was installed as the 89th Bishop of Wuerzburg. On 25 June 2020 he was elected chair of the Association Council of the Association of the Dioceses of Germany (VDD). On 21 September 2021 he became a member of the Caritas Commission of the German Bishops' Conference (DBK). On 1 March 2023 he became a member of the bishops' specialist group for questions of sexual abuse and experiences of violence (DBK). On 15 June 2024 he became a member of Commission II: "Evaluation and Monitoring of the Implementation of the Resolutions of the Synodal Path" (DBK).
