Prelate of Yauyos
He was born in Lima on March 13, 1955. He attended the Champagnat School in Lima (1960–1971). He pursued engineering studies (1972–1978) and graduated as an Industrial Engineer from the University of Piura in 1979. He has been a member of Opus Dei since 1974. He completed his ecclesiastical studies in Rome at the Opus Dei Prelature's seminary. He was ordained a priest by Pope John Paul II on June 12, 1983. He holds a Doctorate in Theology from the University of Navarra, Spain (1985). Prior to his appointment, he carried out extensive pastoral work with university and school-aged youth in Lima, Piura, and Arequipa. He has served as a professor of Moral Theology at the University of Piura and at the Opus Dei *Studium Generale*. He has also dedicated himself to providing spiritual guidance and preaching retreats for priests in various dioceses across the central and southern Andean regions. From 2000 to 2005, he assisted with spiritual direction at the San Jerónimo Seminary in Arequipa, the city where he resided until his episcopal appointment. Appointed Bishop-Prelate of Yauyos-Cañete by His Holiness John Paul II, he took canonical possession of the see on December 4, 2005, at the "Madre del Amor Hermoso" (Mother of Beautiful Love) Sanctuary in Cañete. In January 2022, Msgr. García was elected by the Bishops of Peru as President of the Episcopal Commission for Education, Culture, and Cultural Heritage.
