Bishop João Kot

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Zé Doca (Brazil) presented by H.E. Msgr. Carlo Ellena, in accordance with Canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Pope has appointed Fr. Jan Kot, O.M.I., as Bishop of the Diocese of Zé Doca (Brazil); until now, he has served as parish priest of the *Sagrado Coração de Maria* parish in Campo Alegre do Fidalgo, in the Diocese of São Raimundo Nonato. Fr. Jan Kot, O.M.I., was born on May 10, 1962, in the town of Maków Podhalański, in the Diocese of Kraków (Poland). He made his religious vows on September 8, 1986, in the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was ordained a priest on June 20, 1992. After his primary education, he pursued studies in philosophy and theology at the Oblates of Mary Immaculate seminaries in Poland. Furthermore, he obtained a Licentiate in Church History from the University of Rybnik, Poland. In 1994, he was assigned to the missions in Brazil. During his priestly ministry, he has held the following positions: Parochial Vicar in Siedlce, Poland (1992–1994); Parish Priest in Jussarval, Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife (1995–2000); Parish Priest in Vitória de Santo Antão, Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife (2000–2005); Second Provincial Councilor (2003–2012); and First Provincial Councilor (from 2012 onwards). Since 2005, he has served as parish priest of the *Sagrado Coração de Maria* parish in Campo Alegre do Fidalgo, in the Diocese of São Raimundo Nonato.
