II. FUNDAMENTAL THEOLOGICAL PRESUPPOSITIONS - II. 2. The Unique Mediation of Jesus - A. Some New Testament Themes

3737. The unique mediation of Jesus Christ is connected with the universal salvific will of God in First Timothy 2:5—6: "There is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all." The uniqueness of the mediator (cf also Heb 8:6; 9:15; 12:24) corresponds to the uniqueness of the God, who desires the salvation of all. The only mediator is the man Christ Jesus; what is at stake here is also the universal significance of Jesus as the Son of God incarnate. He is the mediator between God and men because he is the Son, become man, who has given himself up to death as a ransom for all.
