Bishop José Saúl Grisales Grisales

Monsignor José Saúl Grisales Grisales was born in Sonsón (Antioquia) on April 12, 1964. He completed his primary education at the Enrique Toro Calle School in Sonsón, and his secondary education at the Sonsón Industrial Technical Institute and the Diocesan Seminary of Our Lady. He pursued his initial studies in Philosophy and Theology at the Cristo Sacerdote National Seminary in La Ceja (Antioquia). In 1997, he obtained a Licentiate degree in Liturgy from the Pontifical Institute of Saint Anselm in Rome. He was ordained a priest at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá in Sonsón on November 12, 1989, and was incardinated into the Diocese of Sonsón-Rionegro. He served as parish priest of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá in Sonsón and as Vicar Forane for that area (2015–2017); he has also been a member of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. He was appointed Bishop of Ipiales by Pope Francis on February 3, 2018. He received episcopal ordination on March 17, 2018, from the Apostolic Nuncio to Colombia, Monsignor Ettore Balestrero, and canonically took possession of his assigned see on April 17 of the same year.
