Answer is slow, cut off, or stops streaming

Most answers stream token-by-token within a few seconds. If an answer is very slow, stops part-way, or never starts, try the steps below.

Quick fixes

  1. Check your connection. A flaky Wi-Fi or mobile signal can interrupt the stream mid-answer.
  2. Refresh the page. If the stream is stuck, reloading will usually let the conversation continue normally.
  3. Try the answer again. Click Regenerate under the partial answer, or simply re-send the question.
  4. Simplify the prompt. A very long prompt or attached document can make the AI take longer — ask a narrower question first.

If Reasoning Mode is on

Reasoning Mode produces slower, more thorough answers. A 20–40 second response time is normal. If you need a quick answer, turn Reasoning off via + → Reason. See Reasoning Mode.

If you attached a large file

Large PDFs or documents add processing time. If the answer is slow or stops:

  • Try a smaller file or a specific page range (e.g. paste the relevant passage directly).
  • Stay within the 8 MB per-file limit.

If you hit your usage cap

  • Not signed in: 10 prompts / week. Sign in to lift this to 90 / week.
  • Free plan: 90 prompts per week.
  • Reasoning Mode, Voice Mode, Canvas Mode, Learn Mode, document uploads, and Listen are Pro-only features and aren't available on the Free plan.

When you're over the limit, the AI won't respond. See I have no more queries left — what do I do?.

Still stuck

  • Check our status page for ongoing incidents.
  • Contact us and choose Bug reporting. Include the browser you're using, whether Reasoning Mode was on, and a rough timestamp.
